Gavin Hunt reveals key behind SuperSport United’s consistency

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has revealed the key behind Matsatsantsa’s consistency and good form this season in the DStv Premiership.

The Tshwane side had a bad start to the season just after Gavin Hunt returned to be in-charge ahead of the current campaign.

SuperSport were winless in their first four league matches. They had registered two draws and suffered two defeats.

Their turn around came in September 2022 after bringing some experienced players balance the squad.

GAVIN HUNT SAYS SUPERSPORT UNITED HAVE A STRONG SPINE

According to Hunt, their success this season was bringing in good players that made the spine and the back bone of the team strong.

“The key is to try get the spine right and have some good team. [Ricardo] Goss came in, Tyson in [Thulani Hlatshwayo], we got Siphesihle [Ndlovu], we got Grant [Margeman] we got that section of the team right,” said Hunt.

“In any successful team, wherever I’ve been we always have that proper. You should get that right and you should be fine.

“Always you can’t get the players you want, but we did well to get those ones.”

CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MANDATE

Matsatsantsa’s good form saw them raise to third on the log table. SuperSport are in a race with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates to finish the season in the second spot.

This will see them book a place in next season’s CAF Champions League with two matches left before the season ends.

The duo are only separated by two points. Pirates have amassed 50 points and SuperSport have 48.

Their next encounters are tricky. SuperSport host another Soweto giant Kaizer Chiefs, whilst the Sea Robbers host Sekhukhune United.

Both matches will be played on Saturday 13 May at the Royal Bafokeng and Orlando Stadium respectively. Kickoff is at 3pm.
