Nkosinathi Sibisi makes his 2022/23 PSL Player of the Season pick

With a handful of matches to play before the curtain falls on the season, Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has revealed his pick to win the 2022/23 PSL Player of the Season accolade.

Nkosinathi Sibisi made his mind up prior to Pirates’ 2-1 Soweto Derby win over arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs to reach the Nedbank Cup final.

A bunch of players in the DStv Premiership have raised their hands up as the debate for the Footballer of the Season award has reached a state of great excitement.

Several names have been thrown around, with Mamelodi Sundowns duo Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena tipped to claim the prestigious award.

However, Sibisi seems to think otherwise. The highly-rated defender had no hesitation in picking Monnapule Saleng as the star to walk away with the most prize possession in SA’s topflight.

Saleng has been excellent this campaign in Pirates colours and has become a fan favourite since returning to the club from a loan stint at Swallows.

The attacker has scored 14 goals and provided five assists in 27 games across all competitions. Saleng also earned a Bafana Bafana call-up.  He played a key role earlier in the season in guiding the Soweto giants to clinch the MTN8 trophy.

WHY MONNAPULE SALENG IS NKOSINATHI SIBISI’S PLAYER OF THE SEASON

When asked who he thought would win the PSL Player of the Season award, Sibisi unhesitatingly said: “I would give it to Monnapule Saleng.

“I think he has been brilliant for us. He has been scoring goals. He’s been assisting, working hard and I personally think he deserves it so that’s my honest opinion.”

Pirates are on course to win the Nedbank Cup and qualify for the CAF Champions League. Jose Riveiro’s men will face Sekhukhune United in the Cup final.

And as things stand, they are two points clear of third-placed SuperSport United with two games remaining.
