PSL reveal Motsepe Foundation trophy handover details
The PSL has revealed the details of the trophy handover for this season’s Motsepe Foundation Championship promotion race.
The race for an automatic promo for next season’s DStv Premiership is between three clubs. Cape Town Spurs currently top the table with 66 points followed by Casric Stars with 55 and Polokwane City on 44.
TIGHTLY CONTESTED THREE-TEAM RACE
A win for Spurs would secure a return to top flight football after so many years. They won the league in 1996 before the formation of the Premier Soccer League the same year.
But in 1999, the club was amalgamated with Seven Stars to form Ajax Cape Town. The partnership ended in 2020 and Spurs acquired full control of the club.
Casric on the other hand will want to create their own history of gaining promotion a few months after their formation. The club purchased the status of Free State Stars in August last year.
Rise and Shine were relegated from the Premiership in 2020 and have been fighting hard for a return. They will host Pretoria Callies at Peter Mokaba Stadium. Spurs will host University of Pretoria at Athlone while Casric Stars will travel to All Stars.
All the last matches will be played on Sunday, 14 May 2023.
MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY HANDOVER
“Due to the distances and variables involved, the League has decided that the Motsepe Foundation Championship trophy, team medals, and winner’s cheque, will be awarded at a later stage,” the league revealed.
The PSL has also confirmed the prize money for the winners of the 2022/23 First Division season.
“The PSL has confirmed that the winner of the Motsepe Championship for the 2022/23 season will receive prize money of R5 million,”
