Ashley Cupido reveals where he wants to play next season

Ahead of the final game of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Cape Town Spurs forward Ashley Cupido has revealed where he wants to play his football next season.

The 22-year-old has scored 15 goals this season and will not be short of suitors during the next transfer window.

He has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, among other clubs, following his fine run for the Cape Town outfit.

On Sunday, he hopes to help his side beat the University of Pretoria in their final match to gain automatic promotion to the PSL.

Spurs hosts Tuks at the Athlone Stadium at 3pm in a decisive encounter. Cupido, who scored his 15th goal against NB La Masia last weekend, is eager to add to his tally. That, he knows, would further enhance his profile.

“I’m still very young, and I’ve got a lot to learn in this game,” he told FARPost.

“Going to big clubs like Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, there are many quality players with ambition.

“If we go up, I’d like to stay with Cape Town Spurs because I always want to improve by playing against the best. When you get a little older, maybe you can move to a bigger club and play amongst the best at a club that wants to win trophies.

“Right now, I still want to grow as a player at Spurs. I can do that because we have a good club and structure and are very professional.

PLAYERS FADE AWAY

“One day down the road, it will come. Yes, of course, I can move, but the time now is to play more and further develop.”

The national Under 23 striker is confident he can hold his weight in any big team if the move is made at the right time.

“I know you always hear many stories of players fading away, but I believe I could hold my weight at a big club with resources. I will move when the time is right.”
