What a return to DStv Premiership means for Makola
Seasoned midfielder Mpho Makola will return to the DStv Premiership just a few months after his move to the lower division.
Makola joined Polokwane City in January this year after parting ways with Cape Town City. A move that came as a surprise to many.
But the risk has proved to be worth it as the 37-year-old helped Rise and Shine return to the top division. The former Orlando Pirates player says it was part of the plan to help the Limpopo side gain promotion.

“For me, it’s mission accomplished. They signed me to come to the team and help them win promotion,” Makola told the media.
“I have ticked the box and I am happy that we have a bunch of good players that deserve to be playing in the DStv Premiership.
“So the whole team deserves it and we just had to keep believing that it can happen even in the last game. I have been in a similar situation before and I am just glad that everybody came to the party,” he said.
“I had to sit down and think about it. But what I believed in is my potential and what I would give to the team. Going down a league lower didn’t mean that I was a bad player, I just needed to show people that I am still able to help the team and be a team player. So I think I have done well so far.”
POLOKWANE CITY SEAL DSTV PREMIERSHIP PLACE
Polokwane City gained promotion to the DStv Premiership on the last day of the season. They beat Pretoria Caillies 4-0 at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The result meant Polokwane leapfrogged Cape Town Spurs who were firm favourites going into the final day. But Spurs only managed a 1-1 draw at home against University of Pretoria.
They will now play in the promotion playoffs alongside Casric Stars and a DStv Premiership team that will finish 15.
