Bongokuhle Hlongwane on target again in the MLS

Bafana Bafana star Bongokuhle Hlongwane is setting the MLS alight this season, scoring goals for fun for his side Minnesota United.

Hlongwane was once again on target for Minnesota United. The highly-rated attacker netted the solitary goal in the club’s 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Thursday morning.

The former Maritzburg United forward is enjoying his time in the MLS. He is also emerging as one of his side’s best performers this season.

He recently performed heroics for the Loons in the US Open Cup, where he came off the bench to score a brace and lead his side into the Round of 16.

Hlongwane has now scored five goals in 13 matches in all competitions for the Loons this season, and appears to have the appetite for more.

His winner against Houston was his third league goal of the campaign and it guided his side to their fourth win in the league so far.

Minnesota are seventh in the Western Conference with 15 points from 12 matches, 11 behind leaders Seattle Saunders.

Minnesota have now extended their win streak over Houston to six games, their longest winning run against an opponent in the team’s MLS history.

Loons coach Adrian Heath was delighted with the result and heaped praise on his side after the match.

“Well, it has been a long time coming,” said Heath in his post match interview.

HLONGWANE’S MINNESOTA VICTORIOUS

“It would have been a travesty if we hadn’t won the game, with the clear-cut opportunities we created. I thought we played some good football.”

Minnesota are next in action in the MLS on Sunday when they face Portland Timbers at Providence Park.

They will then renew their rivalry with Houston in the Round of 16 of the US Open Cup on 24 May at PNC Stadium  in Texas.
