Mokwena remains mum on Jali’s future at Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has refused to divulge much regarding Andile Jali’s future at the Brazilians, with reports claiming that the midfielder is set for an exit when the season comes to an end.

Jali has been the talk of the town in recent months, as the player is heavily linked with a move to one of the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs

The 33-year-old defensive midfielder hasn’t been part of the DStv Premiership champions since his suspension in February.

It was alleged that the former Bafana Bafana international was suspended after arriving at training drunk. And since then, Jali has not set trained with the team.

Jali’s contract comes to an end in June, and by the looks of things, the Chloorkop-based side will not extend his stay at the club.

When Mokwena was asked about Jali’s future at Masandawana during their CAF Champions League semi-final second-leg clash against Wydad AC press conference, the 36-year-old mentor remained tight-lipped.

“I don’t know about Andile Jali to be honest,” he told the media.

“I don’t know what the latest is. The club will respond accordingly to that matter.”

MOKWENA ON SIPHO MBULE’S PERFORMANCES

The coach went on to give a verdict on Sipho Mbule’s performances so far, having joined Bafana Ba Style in July 2022.

“With Sipho Mbule, I’m more than pleased,” he added.

“I have taken it a little bit as my side project. I invest a lot of time in a lot of my players.

“So, I do a lot of work behind the scenes in a lot of good performances of my players.”

Sundowns will face Wydad on Saturday, 20, May 2023, at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. The kick-off is set for 15:00.

The first leg ended in a 0-0 draw at Stade Mohammed V in Morocco last week.
