Seema bizarrely looking to play playoffs with Chippa

Chippa United head coach Lehlohonolo Seema has bizarrely revealed that he wants his club to play in the promotion/relegation playoffs.

The Gqeberha-based outfit have struggled to find a consistent winning form since the start of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership.

As a result, Chippa find themselves rooted at the basement of league table and they could be relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The Chilli Boys were hammered 4-0 by TS Galaxy last Saturday at Mbombela Stadium to add to club’s relegation woes.

Chippa United chairman Siviwe Mpengesi has made five impulsive coaching changes as the club continued to struggle for results.

Daine Klate, Morgan Mammila Kurt Lentjies, Mbulelo Gwambi are some of the names that have gone out of the revolving door at Chippa.

Seema is currently at the helm and was tasked with a role to help Chippa survive relegation.

Despite still having the mathematical advantage of surviving the axe, Seema bizarrely aimed for the promotion/relegation playoffs spot.

“After our loss against TS Galaxy, we were sure of what’s expected of us,” said Seema.

“We were sure of occupying the playoffs spot and I told the players that the sooner we accept our situation the better.

“So we know that we have playoffs spot and nothing else. So have have to win our home game [against Golden Arrows] so that we can go to playoffs.

“I don’t even want to say we gonna be safe. We are quite clear; we want to go to the playoffs,” he added.

In addition, Chippa United at the bottom of the table are tied on 29 points with 15th placed Marumo Gallants and one point behind Maritzburg United, who are in 14th spot.

In their last game of the season, Chippa will take on Golden Arrows at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

For Chippa to go to the playoffs or retain their Premiership status, they must beat Arrows and hope Maritzburg or Gallants drop points.

The encounter will take place on Saturday, 18th of May with kickoff set for 15:00.
