Chippa draw with Arrows but survive relegation
Chippa United have survived relegation following a 0-0 draw against Golden Arrows on the final day of the DStv Premiership. Chippa came into the match needing at least a point to avoid automatic relegation and three points to secure their status in the top flight.
They were at the bottom of the log with 29 points. But the much-needed point against Arrows takes them to 30 points. They are now equal on points with Maritzburg United but have a superior goal difference.
CHIPPA UNITED SURVIVES RELEGATION
The result also means Maritzburg United will play in the relegation/promotion playoffs alongside Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars. The team of Choice finished at position 15 after their 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns midweek.
MARUMO GALLANTS RELEGATED
Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants are officially relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. The Limpopo side crumbled 2-0 to Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium. They finished with 29 points with just five wins the entire season.
Gallants have had a troubling season domestically. They have changed home venues frequently and never settled at a regular base.
Despite reaching the historic CAF Confederation Cup semifinals, they go down to the first division after just three seasons in top-flight football.
