Hunt reacts to missing out on CAF Champions League

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has reacted to his side missing out on qualifying for the CAF Champions League.

United lost 1- 0 to Sekhukhune United at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. The result meant Matsatsantsa finished three points behind Orlando Pirates who beat AmaZulu 4-0 also on Saturday.

But the Pretoria side still gets a place in the CAF Confederation Cup for finishing third. This is also the first time that United finished in the top three since Hunt left in 2013. They finished six points above Cape Town City who beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at FNB.

GAVIN HUNT REACT ON MISSING CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Personally for me yes it is a disappointment],” Hunt told journalists in Polokwane

“But we are still in the Confederation Cup. A club of our size to be there ahead of other clubs, who are much bigger than what we are, is a huge achievement. So we will go into that space but we are going to need to do a lot of business in the off-season. To try and get the right mix and balance so we will see.

“It was going to be a big task with two goals behind Pirates but the same points. We should have sealed the second spot weeks ago. We threw games so we should have tied up the second spot weeks ago,” added Hunt.

But Hunt reckons they should have won their match against Sekhukhune comfortably. The defeat was the seventh of the season. They won 14 and drew nine.

“The game on its own we should have won comfortably. We had so many opportunities that we didn’t get the final touch well but yeah they did what they had to do. But there was no contest, but that’s football. It takes more ways to win football like that so we have to give them credit.”
