How Gavin Hunt has impacted SuperSport’s season

Gavin Hunt’s comeback at SuperSport United at the beginning of the season, has impacted their season, and here is why.

Hunt made his comeback to SuperSport at the beginning of the season, after 10 seasons of being part of two other DStv Premiership sides [Bidvest Wits, and Kaizer Chiefs].

In his previous spell with the Tshwane side between the 2007/08 season and the 2012/13 season. Hunt won four trophies with SuperSport. Three league titles and the Nedbank Cup.

He also became the first head coach in the PSL era to win a hat-trick of league titles consecutively with SuperSport.

HOW HAS HUNT IMPACTED SUPERSPORT’S SEASON

SuperSport has not been able to achieve a top-four finish since Hunt left the club.

The highest they have finished since the departure of Hunt was fifth in the 2016/17 season.

And with Hunt back, Matsatsantsa a Pitori have already solidified a top-four finish, with two games still to be played. This season, SuperSport will get an opportunity to finish inside the top three.

Currently, they are in a battle to get a top two or three finish, which will guarantee them continental football next season.

The last time SuperSport finished inside the top four was in the 2011/12 season, they finished third on 52 points.

And this time around, they stand a chance of finishing higher than that. But they will have to win their remaining games in order to achieve this.

This weekend, on Saturday, 20 May, Matsatsantsa play Sekhukhune United away from home.

And they will look to extend their unbeaten run in the league to seven games this weekend, and hope that Orlando Pirates can drop points.

So that they can secure a top two finish and qualify for CAF Champions League.
