Ayanda Dlamini admits big ambition of his coaching career

AmaZulu FC interim coach Ayanda Dlamini has admitted a big ambition after completing a season as the club’s caretaker coach.

Having taken over from Romain Folz in April, Dlamini oversaw six games at Usuthu, winning one, drawing two and losing three.

He was successful in steering the side away from the drop zone, but he also failed to finish within the top eight.

Speaking after their match against Orlando Pirates on Saturday, Dlamini frankly admitted that, at some point, he wants to be a head coach.

The 38-year-old coach says he has grasped some experience whenever he was given an opportunity on an interim basis.

AYANDA DLAMINI ON BEING A HEAD COACH

“Obviously, as I’m in this industry, I do want to be a head coach eventually,” said Dlamini.

“Otherwise, I wouldn’t be [in coaching]…Whether that happens now or in three years’ time but I do want to be a permanent head coach in the end.

“I’ve said it before that whenever the club says it needs Ayanda to help, I’ll always be available.

“And I feel those opportunities are the ones that make all the coaches grow.

“I don’t think there’s a coach who just jumped on to coaching Sundowns and winning 11 games in a row.

“They started somewhere, all of them. Pitso [Mosimane], Rulani [Mokwena] and Pep Guardiola all started somewhere. Guardiola didn’t just become Guardiola [overnight].

“So we all have to start somewhere, we all have to face difficulties along the way. It depends on what’s your personality and how you take those ones. Do they help you to grow as a coach?

“And for me, whatever situation I’m facing, I’m willing to take it positively because it’ll make me grow as a head coach.

“But yes, my ambition is to be a full-time head coach.”
