Chaine on imminent competition with Buthelezi
Sipho Chaine has commented on the imminent competition with Orlando Pirates-bound goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi.
Buthelezi is reportedly on his way to Pirates and the goalie has already penned a farewell message to his TS Galaxy teammates and supporters.
The talented shot-stopper has been in a good form for TS Galaxy, which saw him earn his first Bafana Bafana call-up.
Buthelezi established himself as a regular starter TS Galaxy. He made 23 appearances in all competitions under Sead Ramovic during the just-ended 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign.
Meanwhile, Chaine has been the preferred first choice between the sticks at Pirates, keeping the experienced Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane on the bench.
The former Bloemfontein Celtic goalie has helped the Buccaneers to qualify for the CAF Champions League and could win the Nedbank Cup final.
Pirates will face Sekhukhune United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, 27th of May. They will be eager to clinch their second silverware of campaign after winning the MTN8.
With Chaine set to face stiff competition in the goalkeeping department at Pirates next season after the signing of Buthelezi, the ball-playing keeper says he is up for the challenge.
SIPHO CHAINE ON COMPETITION AT ORLANDO PIRATES
“I don’t know if that’s true or not [Buthelezi joining Pirates]. But as a goalkeeper and just in general in life competition is very important. I’m having competition from Richard [Ofori] Kopano [Thuntsane] and Siyabonga [Mpontshane],” Chaine said.
“The competition always get the best out of you to be the better player. And to be the better player you have to thrive under competition.
With Pirates beefing up their goalkeeping department, it remains to be seen which goal-minder will the club during the off-season.
Furthermore, Pirates closed off their league campaign with an 4-0 drubbing to AmaZulu at the weekend.
