Willard Katsande’s heartfelt message to Erick Mathoho
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has penned an emotional letter to Erick Mathoho as the veteran defender cut ties with the Soweto giants.
Katsande and Mathoho played together for about nine years at Chiefs.
The Zimbabwean retired footballer left Naturena in 2021 after spending 10 years at the club. He featured in 308 games for Amakhosi since 2011. In the process he scored 17 goals and weighed in with nine assists.
Mathoho said his goodbyes to his teammates on Thursday, 25 May as Amakhosi concluded their 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign.
‘Tower’, as he’s popularly known within the football circles leaves after 11 seasons with the Soweto giants.
The 33-year-old defender joined Amakhosi back in July 2012 from Bloemfontein Celtic.
He managed to play 267 games for Chiefs and found the back of the net on 22 occasions.
During his stay with the Glamour Boys, Mathoho was lucky enough to lift the league title and Nedbank Cup double, and the MTN8.
He was also part of the Amakhosi team that won the silver medal in the CAF Champions League in 2021.
To put a cherry on top, Mathoho was once a regular Bafana Bafana player, as he won 34 appearances for the national team.

“The tower the best the conqueror, you have outdone yourself,“ wrote Katsande on his official Facebook page.
“You made all the blind to see and the deaf to hear with your beautiful performances for the past 11 years.”

Katsande went on to wish Mathoho all the best in next step of his football career.
