Miguel Timm makes Manyisa admission amid comparison

In not so many words, Orlando Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm has said he is flattered by comparisons to Oupa Manyisa while making an admission about the latter.

A natural workhorse, Timm has fitted in like a glove in the Sea Robbers’ camp, putting in an effervescent shift in midfield.

The midfield maestro joined Orlando Pirates before the start of the 2022/23 season. He received a lukewarm reception from the club’s supporters in his first few matches.

However, Timm has rapidly become a fans’ favourite following his impressive displays. He played a significant role as Pirates won their first trophy in two seasons; the MTN8.

In addition, the late bloomer Timm has been instrumental throughout the season in the DStv Premiership as the club qualified for the CAF Champions League and marched to the Nedbank Cup.

The Soweto giants will face Sekhukhune United on Saturday, 27 May 2023, at Loftus Versfeld, with kickoff set for 18:00.

Due to some good performances, Timm has been compared with Pirates’ former captain and double-treble winner Ace Manyisa. The latter also operated the midfield like Timm at Pirates.

The Pirates fans adore Timm as they chant his name “Timmmm” with every touch of the ball as they did with Manyisa: “Aceee”.

The 31-year-old is proud of his efforts, but he believes he cannot be compared to Manyisa.

“With regards to the fans, I don’t think I can be compared to Ace,” said Timm. “He has won more than I have in his time here. So I still have a long way to go.”

Timm, also a Bafana Bafana player, has played 32 matches in all competitions in Pirates colours: over 2600 minutes in his first season at the club.

“It was not my intention to become a fan favourite but to just contribute to the team in a positive way,” he added.

“And I believe I always give my all, and I’ve always been a team player. I want to continue that way. But that’s an extra bonus [fans chant] for me. But I like to share the energy along with my teammates in the field when the going is tough.”
