CT Spurs coach Bartlett not getting carried away
Cape Town Spurs coach Shaun Bartlett refuses to get carried away following the 1-0 win against Casric Stars in the opening match of the PSL Promotion Playoffs.
Ashley Cupido scored the only goal of the match in the second half at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium at the weekend.
Bartlett’s troops are at the summit of the three-team mini-league and six points from their last three matches can secure them a DStv Premiership spot next season.
Their next two matches will be at home, to Maritzburg United on Saturday and Casric next Wednesday.
SHAUN BARTLET ON PSL PROMOTION PLAYOFFS WIN
Bartlett wants his charges to seal promotion as early as possible and not wait for the last day.
“The quicker we can wrap it up and not leave it up to the last game the better,” Bartlett told FARPost.
“For us, the other advantage is that we are playing two games at home now. So if we get six points from those games then that should seal the promotion to the DStv Premiership.”
Spurs only landed in Cape Town on Monday morning and got back to training for two hours after their landing.
“Just because we won the game yesterday doesn’t mean we stop what we have been doing,” explained Shaun Bartlett.
“Obviously for me, if you look at the match on Sunday, when we apply ourselves, do the right things and play the football that we have done throughout the season, we can get the results. That is probably the last disappointment in our game against AmaTuks.
“We didn’t do the things we normally did. Maybe it was panic or pressure from the game. But yesterday we controlled most of the game and Casric never bothered us.
CAPE TOWN SPURS REMAIN FOCUSED
“The goal is still the same. All the players at the club know that everyone is working for a contract for next season. We just have to put our foot on the ground and work as normal and get the results that we want.”
