Fadlu Davids on what Maritzburg must unmind ahead of Casric Stars clash

Maritzburg United head coach Fadlu Davids has explained what his side mustn’t pay attention to ahead of taking on Casric Stars.

In what will be the second match of the PSL Promotion Play-Offs tournament, Maritzburg will welcome the Mpumalanga outfit at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday at 19:30.

Stars lost to Cape Town Spurs in the opening match on Sunday. Davids is hoping to get off on the right foot by picking up a win at home.

Knowing the pressure that comes with being the only top-tier team in the Play-Offs, Davids has called on his troops to pay no heed to that concern.

He stated they won’t view the opponents as a lower-division team.

FADLU DAVIDS ON WHAT MARITZBURG MUST IGNORE AGAINST CASRIC STARS

“It’s key [to win the first game of the Play-Offs], especially with Cape Town Spurs getting the first win,” said Davids during the interview with FARPost.

“It’s important that we get off the Play-Offs with a win as well.

“We don’t want to put an unnecessary pressure on ourselves but it’s both teams that want to be in the PSL.

“That’s how we approach the match. It’s not the low league, it’s not a team that’s in the lower division. That’s our mindset against the team that wants to be where we are [top-flight].

“We have to show our dominance, superiority from the first whistle to the end and get the points. That’s what it’s about.

“And we can’t be looking down upon them. And I’m sure they won’t be looking up at us, looking at the stars…No.

“It’s a game where both teams want to be in the PSL and it’s a direct fight.”

The next match of the tournament will see Spurs hosting Casric Stars next Wednesday, 7 June. Meanwhile, on Saturday, 10 June, Maritzburg United will square off with Casric Stars on the road.
