Truter singles out key players for Sekhukhune United’s impressive campaign

Sekhukhune United head coach Brandon Truter has singled out his key players at the club during the 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign.

Babina Noko made it to their first-ever Cup final since their promotion to the top flight in the 2021/22 season.

Sekhukhune clashed with Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final this past weekend at Loftus Versfeld Stadium where they lost 2-1.

The Limpopo-based side took an early lead in the final through Sbusiso Vilakazi, but Pirates came from behind to claim a victory and lifted a second trophy of the season.

Pirates won their first trophy of the season under Jose Riveiro early in December 2022 when they won MTN8 silverware against AmaZulu.

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune finished in the top eight on the Premiership table. They also qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup next season after playing in the Nedbank Cup final.

Additionally, Sekhukhune was languishing at the bottom of the log when Brandon Truter took over the coaching reins in November 2022. They managed to turn their fortunes and climbed up the league table since Truter took over.

With Sekhukhune seemingly finding their best form, Truter has singled out players who stood out for the club.

“There are so many achievements to take out of this season. We made it to the cup final and qualified for CAF Confederation Cup,” Truter said.

“Our players improved, [Daniel] Cardoso was written off, and [Edwin] Gyimah was also written off.

“I mean, Gyimah played every single minute in the league, when we include the cup, I don’t think there’s any player who played more games than him.

“Sbusiso Vilakazi was written off, and a lot was said about him in the media but look at him now. Also, no one wanted to take the risk on Kamohelo Mokotjo, and we took him to help him with his rehabilitation. Now he’s one of our key players,” he added.
