AmaZulu FC look set to welcome back loanee ahead of new season

With the PSL July-August transfer window approaching, AmaZulu FC look set to recall one of their players who spent the previous six months out on loan.

Jean-Noel Amonome was sent out on loan by AmaZulu to another KZN outfit Uthongathi FC in January this year. The purpose was to get him some game time as Veli Mothwa has been cuddling the number-one spot for some time.

It is understood the club is considering keeping him for the upcoming season to beef up their goalkeeping department.

AMAZULU TO WELCOME BACK LOANEE AHEAD OF 2023/24 SEASON

The Gabonese international signed for Usuthu in January 2020. In the same year, he went on loan to Royal Eagles, who later turned into Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM] in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

He returned in September before his second loan spell began in the same month with Uthongathi for the whole 2020/21 season.

The 25-year-old then spent the 2021/22 season and the first six months of the 2022/23 season with his parent club. However, he only featured for the club on one occasion.

This was the CAF Champions League group stage match against Horoya SC where he played the full 90 minutes.

In 2021, Amonome established himself as Gabon national team’s first choice. He has continued to feature regularly despite being a fringe ‘keeper at Usuthu.

JODY FEBRUARY EXPECTED TO RETURN TO SUNDOWNS

Meanwhile, when Amonome left in January, AmaZulu signed Mamelodi Sundowns’ Jody February on loan until June.

He’s been between the sticks in the last few games as Mothwa suffered an injury at the beginning of April.

February played eight matches across all competitions, keeping only one clean sheet. The 27-year-old is expected to return to Chloorkop ahead of the upcoming campaign.
