Why Fadlu Davids feels CT Spurs test will be ‘tougher’

Maritzburg United head coach Fadlu Davids has explained why he feels their upcoming match against Cape Town Spurs will be “tougher” than their previous encounter against Casric Stars.

The Team of Choice got off their PSL Promotion Playoffs run on the right foot. They overpowered Stars 2-0 on Wednesday under the lights of Harry Gwala Stadium.

They are now level on points with Spurs who also beat Casric Stars 1-0 in their first match. However, Davids’ troops are on top of the table with a superior goal difference.

Davids says Shaun Barttlet’s side has some veterans who won’t make it easy for them.

“They have experienced players, some of our former players,” said Davids.

“Michael Morton, Nazeer Allie, Clayton Daniels. They have an experienced squad who knows how to defend a really clear structure.

“But we’ve got to show our dominance in relation to how we approach the game, how we play to score goals.

“And a definitely different game going into Cape Town Spurs. More on the level of PSL.”

He went on to insist they should have done better against Casric Stars.

He admitted they had some good moments but feels they missed a lot of opportunities.

‘WE HAVE TO BE MORE RUTHLESS IN FRONT OF GOAL’

“That’s why I’m so hard on the players tonight,” he added.

“Really fantastic football at times, but we have to do it for 90 minutes. And we have to be more ruthless in front of goal.”

Maritzburg will square off with Spurs on Saturday, 3 June at the Athlone Stadium at 3 pm.

Meanwhile, their return tie against Casric will be on 10 June, at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

Maritzburg’s final match will see them welcome Spurs on 14 June at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
