Shaun Bartlett: ‘The opponents can’t handle us’
Shaun Bartlett has revealed the key factor in Cape Town Spurs’ crucial win over DStv Premiership side Maritzburg United on Saturday.
CT Spurs beat Maritzburg 1-0 at Athlone Stadium in a PSL Promotional Play-offs encounter.
Seasoned campaigner Michael Morton scored the all-important goal as the Cape side moved to top spot of the table.
According to Bartlett, the key to his troops’ victory was their approach to the game as they did their homework on Maritzburg.
“I think it was a little bit more of a relief than delight, to be honest,” said Bartlett. “We were quite stressed out knowing that we were coming up against a Premiership team. But I’ve always been confident in my team.
“The way we approach games is to take it to the opponent as I’ve emphasised before. Our home form has been the catalyst and the foundation for us being in this position.
Shaun Bartlett REVEALS KEY TO VICTORY
“Once we play well, we go high energy and intensity, then the opponents can’t handle us. So that’s the way we have to play the game, and hopefully, we can repeat that on Wednesday.”
“And for us, having watched Maritzburg, I think we probably have about 12 games of them, so we thoroughly analysed them to see where we could exploit their weaknesses,” he added.
Bartlett’s side has won their opening two matches and could make it three wins when they face Casric Stars on Wednesday.
The coach went on to highlight the importance of recovering well to ensure that his men are in top shape again for the Stars clash.
“Now we got to recover. We obviously got a couple of older guys in the squad, so get them ready for Wednesday,” declared Bartlett.
“Another home game, an important one, and hopefully, we can get the fans as well. It’s going to be difficult, a midweek game. But we know they’ve always been the 12th-man for the whole season.”
