Maritzburg United provides update on Kgotso Moleko

Maritzburg United have provided an update on the defender Kgotso Moleko who “broke his leg” after signing for the club.

The former Kaizer Chiefs defender penned a deal with the Team of Choice in the January transfer window. He signed along with Kwame Peprah, Bradley Cross, Mogamad de Goede, Tebogo Tlolane, Ali Meza and Wayde Jooste.

Initially, the club hoped to have the 33-year-old back “by the middle of March,” as the club’s head coach Fadlu Davids gave an update back in February.

However, his recovery has taken longer than expected. And it’s clear he will miss the whole PSL Promotion Play-Offs tournament.

Davids hopes the Bloemfontein-born star will be ready to play when they start the pre-season.

“He’s not yet available for selection,” Davids told FARPost. “We hope to get him fit for the pre-season.”

Before joining the Pietermaritzburg-based club, Moleko was unattached for six months after partying ways with AmaZulu in July 2022.

He was part of a bunch of players released by Usuthu, with the club rebuilding the squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Moleko had made only 13 appearances in the AmaZulu jersey, playing under Benni McCarthy and Brandon Truter.

Meanwhile, before he joined AmaZulu, he had spent nine seasons with Kaizer Chiefs. He signed for the Soweto giants in 2012 and left the club in 2021.

He featured 97 times across all competitions in the Gold and Black shirt, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

MARITZBURG AIMING FOR A WIN IN THEIR FIRST PSL PLAY-OFFS MATCH

Davids’ side will aim for a victory when they host Casric Stars in their first match of the PSL Promotion Play-Offs.

The match will take place at the Team of Choice’s backyard Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday at 19:30.
