Sandile Zungu: ‘AmaZulu are not a whale’

AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has sent a strong message to the football clubs ahead of the PSL off-season transfer window.

Usuthu’s boss was responding to the rumours about some of the club’s key players linked with the so-called big clubs. This includes news about Riaan Hanamub and Abbubaker Mobara, who are said to be on Orlando Pirates’ wishlist.

He sent a warning to the clubs who are already thinking of presenting offers to them. Zungu stated that his club wouldn’t be butchered like a whale.

He says they will be “more resistant” regardless of who is putting an offer on the table.

SANDILE ZUNGU SAYS AMAZULU ARE NOT A WHALE

“We’re not that team where clubs will come and butcher a whale and leave the bones,” said Zungu.

“But when a player says, ‘Hey, I’ve got a future, and I’m thinking very seriously about it, and there’s been a proper approach.’

“We’re amenable to not stand in the way of players. You would have seen with [Makhehlene] Makhaula.

“It was very unfortunate to lose him at the time that we did. But he signed a pre-contract with Orlando Pirates.

“And they wanted him at a time they did. We were not going to stand in his way if he wanted to, as he had spoken to me. Then we released him.

“So, he left. It did leave a gaping hole in that position for quite some time.

“We didn’t expect to lose [Tapelo] Xoki at the time that we did. But an offer came, and Pirates said they’d love to have him. I said okay, fine, let’s discuss.

“And he’s with Orlando Pirates, the great leader of AmaZulu. And so was Makhehlene Makhaula…the boys that I’m extremely proud of. I love them to bits, even though they’re no longer with AmaZulu.

‘WE’LL BE A BIT MORE RESISTANT’

“So, we’re not a team that stands in the way of players. But I think going forward; we’ll be a lot more resistant to those who come and butcher a whale.

“We’ll say ‘No’ this one. There’s no for sale ticket on him. He’s an AmaZulu player. He’s not going anywhere.”
