SuperSport United’s first departure confirmed
A ‘lot of player movements’ forecast by SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews will see one of their midfielders being let go this month.
In recent seasons, United’s entrance and exit doors have been quite busy. This has seen the club selling a number of its key players to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Lately, they have also relied on loanees such as Siphesihle Ndlovu and Zakhele Lepasa [both Orlando Pirates], Grant Margeman, Ricardo Goss and Thabang Sibanyoni [All Mamelodi Sundowns].
Some of the aforementioned players will return to their parent clubs ahead of the 2023/24 season.
SUPERSPORT UNITED’S FIRST DEPARTURE CONFIRMED
Apart from loanees likely to depart, FARPost can reveal that Matsatsantsa will let go of the hardly-used midfielder Zukile Kewuti.
The Cape Town City Academy product’s contract will expire at the end of June. SuperSport have decided against extending it after he struggled for game time.
“No, we’re not keeping Kewuti,” Matthews confirmed with a brief answer to FARPost.
Kewuti signed a short-term deal with the Swanky Boys in January after he left Maritzburg United. And the Cape Town-born only featured in four games for Hunt’s side.
Kewuti’s career has been unsteady in recent years with the midfielder having relocated from Cape Town to Durban to Pietermaritzburg to Pretoria in a space of two years.
The 27-year-old emerged at Cape Town City in 2018 under the then-head coach Benni McCarthy. He only spent three years with the Citizens before he went out on loan to AmaZulu, reuniting with McCarthy who was mentoring Usuthu.
He then joined Maritzburg United after he was released by City permanently before he signed for the Spartans five months ago.
HLATSHWAYO, MASWANGANYI AND PULE’S CONTRACTS EXPIRE IN JUNE
Meanwhile, other SuperSport players who’ll see their contracts end are Thulani Hlatshwayo, Boalefa Pule and Patrick Maswanganyi.
The reports suggest that the club is planning to keep the former Bafana Bafana captain after an impressive first campaign with the Tshwane side.
