Ex-Marumo Gallants coach looks set to join Swallows DDC

Swallows FC are closing in on the appointment of the former Marumo Gallants coach as their new DStv Diski Challenge mentor.

FARPost has learnt that the Dube Birds have identified Mpho Maleka as the right man to be at the helm of their reserve side.

Swallows’ move to appoint Maleka has accelerated after Musa Nyatama took the reins as the permanent head coach of the senior team.

It is understood Nyatama has an influence on the club’s pursuit of Maleka.

The Mankweng-born coach has been unattached since he parted ways with Marumo Gallants at the beginning of the 2022/23 season.

Maleka served both as an assistant and caretaker coach during his time at the Bahlabani Ba Ntwa.

Before he was sacked, he was placed on suspension by the Limpopo outfit due to reported insubordination.

Further, as reported by FARPost in December last year, the 45-year-old coach took the club to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) for unfair dismissal.

PSL DRC ruled in his favour, and the club was therefore ordered to compensate him.

MALEKA ON FURTHERING HIS QUALIFICATIONS

While unattached, Maleka has been taking some time to upgrade his coaching badges as he is currently undergoing CAF B Licence.

The former Jomo Cosmos striker Christopher Katongo is one of the notable names that is also completing the course.

‘PLAYING EXPERIENCE ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH’

“There is a need. Anyone who wants to be in football has to go through these kinds of courses so that they can be well-advised and educated. Experience alone won’t be enough,” Maleka told FARPost when he was in Lusaka.

“You also need academic education. Nowadays football has changed and evolved, so we need to be in line with what is happening in the world.

“So, the day I planned to be a coach I told myself that I needed to empower myself.

“As much as I played football and gained experience but that is not enough. That’s why I felt there is a need for me to go out and empower myself anywhere in the World.”
