Hugo Broos throws a challenge to Lyle Foster

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has thrown a challenge to striker Lyle Foster in the national team set-up.

Foster has been Broos’ preferred striker. However he didn’t receive a call up for the AFCON qualifiers against Morocco. He had to start pre-season early with Premier League returnees Burnley FC.

In the 22-year-old’s absence, Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa stood up and performed very well. He netted the second goal of the match.

HUGO BROOS’ CHALLENGE TO LYLE FOSTER

According to Broos, it’s now up to Foster to come back to the team and challenge Lepasa for the number nine spot as nobody has a guaranteed starting place in the team.

“I know Lyle Foster is not here, it’s ok. It’s up to Lyle now. He will be here next game or next camp. It’s up to him, it’s up to Zakhele [Lepasa] it’s up to everyone in the team,” said Broos.

“When you have two or several players in one position that makes it difficult for everyone in the sense that you have to perform. It’s easy if you’re the only one in that position.

ONE ELEMENT HUGO BROOS HAS INSTILLED AT BAFANA BAFANA

Broos has with doubt instilled a competitive environment at Bafana Bafana. The 71-year-old believes competition leads the players to elevate their performances. This in-turn increases quality on the field.

“Now everybody knows that I have to perform. If I don’t perform maybe there will be someone who will take my position.

“Everyone feels that when I’m in the team, I have to perform, the quality goes up. I play today, but I have to perform, I know my friend is on the bench. If I don’t perform he will take my place,” he added.
