Sundowns to snap up highly-rated PSL youngster?

Mamelodi Sundowns are considering acquiring the services of a highly-rated PSL youngster ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

Sundowns have proven their dominance in the market in the previous transfer window with the signing of top talent in the league.

The Brazilians clinched their sixth league title in a row but stumbled in the CAF Champions League semi-finals. Masandawana suffered elimination from the Champions League in the last four by Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca.

The Tshwane giants are looking for beef up their squad for the upcoming season and FARPost understands that they are close to finalising a deal for one of the highly-rated PSL youngsters.

Sundowns have set their eyes on Stellenbosch youngster Olwethu Makhanya and indications are that the deal between the two parties is close to being concluded.

“The talks between Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch are ongoing. Sundowns have tabled an offered for Olwethu Makhanya,” a source close to the club told FARPost.

“Everything is going well and it looks like the boy would sign in the coming days. If Makhanya signs, he’s most likely to go back to Stellenbosch on loan.

“So Sundowns view Makhanya as a good upcoming talent that could be a long-term investment for them.”

In addition, Makhanya had an impressive maiden season in the top flight. He was promoted from Stellies’ DStv Diski Challenge side to the first team at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

The 19-year-old defender played 24 matches in all competitions for Stellies and contributed a solitary goal.

Furthermore, Sundowns have already started shipping out players, who are deemed surplus to requirements.

Amongst players who left Rulani Mokwena-coached team is Andile Jali, Surprise Ralani, Gift Motupa and Haashim Domingo, who’s reportedly on his way to join Raja Casablanca.
