What surprises Hugo Broos about Zakhele Lepasa

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has revealed what surprises him about Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa.

Lepasa went out on loan from Pirates to SuperSport United during the January transfer window in the just-ended PSL season.

The 26-year-old was on the score sheet when Bafana beat Morroco 2-1 in the AFCON qualifiers at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 17 June.

Bafana have booked their spot in AFCON showpiece that will take place at Ivory Coast in January 2024.

Meanwhile, Lepasa who has struggled for game time at club level has been surprise inclusion in national team ahead of in-form Khanyisa Mayo.

Lepasa has repaid the faith shown in him by Broos after scoring in the last two matches for Bafana in the qualifiers.

The Belgian mentor says he’s surprised that Lepasa has been struggling for game time at Pirates which saw him go on loan at SuperSport.

HUGO BROOS QUESTIONS ZAKHELE LEPASA’S STRUGGLE FOR GAME TIME IN THE CLUB LEVEL

“Zakhele [Lepasa] is one of the players with problems at their clubs. He didn’t play at Pirates and now at SuperSport he doesn’t play every game,” said Broos.

“I really don’t understand it, I gave him my confidence because I know he’s a good striker and you have to give him confidence.

“He still has to improve but I’m very happy with him because he scored an important goal in Liberia.

“I don’t think for defenders it’s nice to play against him, his movements, he’s quick and he does everything you ask from him.

“So we have to go on with Lepasa, I’m very happy with him. I’m a little bit surprised why he’s not a standard player in his clubs,” concluded Broos.
