Banyana Banyana star cut ties with Mexican side

A Banyana Banyana star has cut ties with Mexican top-flight side Tigres Femenil, just after five months with the club.

Tigres have part company with the South African attacker Noxolo Cesane, who joined the team in February 2023.

The CAF WAFCON winner had joined the Mexican side after a few months she penned a one-year deal with an option to renew with the French club, Stade de Reims

WHY NOXOLO CESANE LEFT THE MEXICAN SIDE

Cesane struggled to get some game time at her since her arrival at Tigres.

The star player will now turn her focus to cementing her place in the Banyana squad, as she was included in the preliminary World Cup squad.

A fortnight ago, Banyana coach Desiree Ellis announced a 36-woman preliminary squad for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup due to be held in Australia and New Zealand.

The much-awaited Women’s World Cup tournament will kick off from July 20 until August 20.

Ellis’ charges have already reported to camp in Johannesburg on 12 June 2023.

The players will be expected to impress the three-time CAF Women’s of the Year, Ellis, at the camp. Ellis will name her final squad later this month.

Cesane was a key member for Ellis’ WAFCON winning squad. She contributed two assists to help Banyana to be crowned the African champions for the first time ever.

In South Africa, Cesane also represented Cape Town Roses and the University of the Western Cape [UWC].

To add a cherry on top, the talented player had her fair share of play over the past few years, having represented South Africa’s U17 and U20 before representing the national women’s senior team.

NOXOLO CESANE’S NEXT MOVE

Cesane’s next move is unclear at this point and time, as the World Cup looms large.
