Leopards make a major announcement on the club’s future

Relegated Motsepe Foundation Championship Black Leopards have announced their immediate return to the same league ahead of the upcoming season.

Leopards finished bottom of the log last season and were subsequently demoted to the SAFA ABC Motsepe League.

They were due to play in the Limpopo stream for the 2023/24 season. But in a press briefing held at the Meropa Casino in Polokwane on Friday, the club announced their return to the PSL.

BLACK LEOPARDS ANNOUNCED COMEBACK

They have purchased the status of All Stars who came close to securing a promotion playoff spot last season. The club will remain in Limpopo and will be based in Polokwane but still play their home matches at Thohoyandou Stadium.

NEW PARTNERSHIP

The club has also announced that Chief Thidiela is the new Chairman of the club while David Thidiela becomes the President.

“The reason we took so long to come to the conclusion is that there were different views [from the family],” said Chief during a media briefing.

“We sat and acknowledged that we are spending money that we are not getting back. The only reason we agreed to do it was to say there are other families that are earning a living because of this team.

“So the influence and the impact that the team has on the community is very big. That is the major reason why we were able to go and convince other family members. But we came out collectively with the view that let us continue [with football]. Even though financially it is not viable,” he said.

The club is expected to announce a new partnership with a tertiary institution in Limpopo as a feeder club. FARPost has gathered that they have decided to adopt the University of Venda with an announcement expected soon.

Peter Mponda has also been confirmed as the new assistant coach while the club deliberates on a new coach.
