The coaches that elevated Thabang Monare’s game
Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare has revealed the coaches that elevated his game at the professional ranks.
Monare defied all odds and managed to be one of the top players in SA’s top-flight. He was a key player for the Soweto giants last season in the PSL. All-in-all, he played 21 matches in all competitions.
To add, he played a big part as the Sea Robbers won a cup double; the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup.
THE COACHES THAT ELEVATED THABANG MONARE’S GAME
The 33-year-old named Jomo Sono and Gavin Hunt as the great coaches who helped him to be successful.
With Jomo Sono, they worked together at Jomo Cosmos from the Motsepe Foundation Championship up to the South African topflight.
The midfield maestro spent two seasons with Ezenkosi from 2014 to 2016.
“In my career, I had good coaches that I worked under, and they all brought something different,” said Monare on The Sias du Plessis Show.
“There was Jomo Sono, he made you believe that you are good. [He will say] just do it, you can that always brought that confidence in me.
“He will compare me to other [best] players, every time he will lift that confidence.”
THABANG MONARE ON GAVIN HUNT
The Mpumalanga-born star also worked with Hunt at now defunct BidVest Wits. His stay with the Clever Boys lasted four years [2016 to 2020].
He helped the team to secure their first ever league title in 2016/17 season.
“Then there was Gavin [Hunt], he taught me how to win. With him it was a win or nothing, you have to work hard to win.
“[He taught me that] winning does not come out nice all the time. Till this day, I carry it with me, I got to understand that. This guy will come to you hard,” he added.
