What the COSAFA Cup means to a DStv Prem-bound Eswatini star
A DStv Premiership-bound Eswatini star has revealed what it means for him to participate in the 2023 COSAFA Cup amid growing interest in South Africa.
The COSAFA Cup tournament is pencilled to run from the 6-15 July in Durban.
Over the years, the regional tournament has given clubs the oppurtunity to scout for players.
Several players made the cut into the lucrative DStv Premiership after impressing during the COSAFA Cup.
And a DStv Premiership-bound Eswatini star has vowed to further entice his suitors during this year’s edition of the tournament.
WHAT THE ESWATINI STAR IS TARGETING DURING THE 2023 COSAFA CUP
Green Mamba captain Mxolisi Mkhonto will have one last chance to charm Royal AM following a trial stint at the club earlier this season.
“This time around, we are looking forward to reaching the finals, our main target. I’m very much excited to play in this tournament,” Mxolisi Mkhonto told FARPost.
“Here in Swaziland, we are lacking in terms of football agents. So it’s time to show the world that even in Swaziland there are good players.
“And I’m looking forward to bringing my A game there.”
The DStv Premiership-bound Eswatini star received a national team call-up at a time when he was undergoing trials Royal AM.
The Durban based team is aiming to fill in the void left by Ricardo Nascimento, Lantshene Phalane and Tshepo Rikhotso who left.
While everything appears to be on course for Royal AM to sign Mxolisi Mkhonto, he wants to raise his stakes at the COSAFA Cup.
“Definitely I will impress. Last week I was on trails with Royal AM and I did a good job there.
“I didn’t score in my two previous COSAFA Cup appearances because I was mostly was playing as number 6.
“We always use a low block when we are playing at national team but definitely this time around I will get one or two. They are pushing me to the number 10 position,” he added.
