Ex-Pirates captain eyeing AmaZulu FC’s team manager role

A former Orlando Pirates captain is eyeing AmaZulu FC’s team manager role with the Durban-based club having advertised the position a few weeks ago.

Not only Usuthu are rebuilding their football playing team, but they are also restructuring their backroom staff.

The Team Manager position was previously held by Qedi Dlamini at the Sandile Zungu-owned club and it was reported that he would part ways with AmaZulu last month.

The former Zimbabwe international Edelbert Dinha, who had a stint with Pirates between 2002 and 2006 has also sent his CV as he hopes to get the role.

“Yes, I did apply for the position but they haven’t come back to me,” Dinha told FARPost.

“We’re just trying, and hoping that they will come back to me. But if they don’t then it’s tough luck.”

Dinha retired in 2008 after a brief spell with Mpumalanga Black Aces. He’s based in Johannesburg where he owns a football academy called Shumba Football Development.

WHAT DHINA IS CURRENTLY BUSY WITH

“Right now, I’ve got an academy that I coach based in Joburg,” he answered when asked what he was busy with.

“We’re trying to assist the disadvantaged kids that are very good not only in soccer, even in academics.

“In football, not everybody is going to make it. Others might end up being doctors, physiotherapists or things like that.

“So, we always try to assist them in different positions.”

Meanwhile, AmaZulu also advertised the Director of Football position which is one of the positions that have been added to the backroom staff along with the Sporting Director role.

Moreover, as previously reported by FARPost, Bongani Khumalo was inching closer to becoming Usuthu’s Sporting Director.
