Top 10 out-of-contract players in PSL
The July-August transfer window has officially opened, here’s a look at the top 10 free agents up for grabs in the PSL.
Some movements have already taken place prior to the opening of the window. Most of the signings that have been made by clubs are yet to be unveiled.
It promises to be one of the busy windows with some big names still clubless. The players below are either those whose exits have been confirmed by their previous clubs or the ones whose contracts have expired.
TOP 10 OUT-OF-CONTRACT PLAYERS IN PSL
[10.] Ricardo Nascimento
Royal AM president Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize confirmed that the Brazilian defender would be heading out of the club at the end of the previous season.
He may be 36 years old but his services are still fit for use in the DStv Premiership. He played 24 games and scored three goals in all competitions last season.
[9.] Nkanyiso Zungu
The midfield sensation recently parted company with Orlando Pirates, who decided against extending his contract after a lousy loan spell at Richards Bay FC.
KZN outfit showed Zungu the exit door before the end of his loan stint due to off-the-field issues.
[8.] Wayde Jooste
The Port Elizabeth-born had a brief spell with Maritzburg United last season. He joined them in January after he had struggled to find a club following his exit from Orlando Pirates.
It’s back to square one for the versatile right-footer who’s seeking a new home ahead of the 2023/24 season.
[7.] Luvuyo Memela
The former Orlando Pirates man surprisingly parted ways with Richards Bay at the end of last season.
Memela, who made himself a name at Pirates, played 24 matches for the Natal Rich Boyz across all competitions in the last campaign.
[6.] Jose Ali Meza
Following the relegation of his former club Maritzburg United, Meza was one of the first players to depart.
Despite a failure to save the club from sinking, the winger was a Team of Choice’s vital cog in the second round.
The Venezuelan played 17 matches and scored three goals for the Midlands side last season.
[5.] Ntsako Makhubela
Pirates let go of Makhubela along with Zungu with the club electing not to extend his contract.
The 29-year-old spent the second round of the season on loan at Golden Arrows. He’s likely to sign for Abafana Bes’thende permanently.
[4.] Eric Mathoho
Mathoho, who’s one of the longest-serving members at Chiefs, was the first departure from the club when the season ended.
He struggled with injuries and with regular minutes last season under the leadership of Arthur Zwane.
His next contract could be the last of his career before he calls it a day in playing football.
[3.] Thamsanqa Gabuza
Gabuza’s agent Mike Makaab has already confirmed that the striker won’t continue at SuperSport United.
‘Gandaganda’ might also be looking for his last contract. He was close to joining Royal AM in January, however, it’s unclear whether Thwihli Thwahla still want him.
[2.] Andile Jali
Jali has been in the headlines since rumours about leaving Sundowns began flying. Some local teams including Orlando Pirates, Royal AM and AmaZulu are hunting for the veteran’s services.
[1.] Khama Billiat
Amakhosi are yet to make any announcement regarding Khama Billiat’s career at the club.
FARPost understands the club wants to keep him while there’s an interest abroad that might draw him away from PSL.
