Mamelodi Sundowns make decision on Lesedi Kapinga

The agent of Lesedi Kapinga has confirmed that Mamelodi Sundowns have made a decision on the future of the attacking midfielder.

According to Mushe Mudau of Mushe Sports Agency, the Brazilians have decided not to exercise an option on Kapinga’s contract.

The 28-year-old signed for the DStv Premiership champions in 2020 on a three-year deal and an option to extend for a further two years. The contract of the former Black Leopards midfielder came to an end on Friday, 30 June.

During his three-year stint at Chloorkop, he collected 39 appearances, provided seven assists and scored four goals across all competitions.

“Kapinga’s relationship with Sundowns finished on 30 June, they [Sundowns] didn’t exercise the option,” Mudau confirmed to FARPost.

Kapinga was snatched by Masandawana after his two spectacular seasons at the Limpopo side, Leopards. During those two seasons, the midfielder was a mainstay of Lidoda Duvha. He rattled the back of the net on seven occasions and gave eight assists in 51 appearances he gathered in all competitions.

Kapinga joins Andile Jali and Haashim Domingo who have already seen their way out of the Tshwane giants’ exit door.

The defensive midfielder, Jali is yet to find a new home. However, multiple reports have pointed him at his old club Orlando Pirates and two KZN outfits AmaZulu FC and Royal AM.

Meanwhile, Domingo recently signed for the Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca where he’ll work with familiar faces in Josef Zinnbaeur and Fadlu Davids.

OTHER SUNDOWNS PLAYERS WHO COULD DEPART

Other Sundowns players who could be heading out of the club ahead of next season are left-back Lyle Lakay and midfielder Surprise Ralani.

Lakay spent the last campaign on a season-long loan at his former club Cape Town City FC. And Ralani struggled to get enough game time last season, amassing only 12 appearances in all competitions.
