Kaitano Tembo could be set for shock return to DStv Premiership
Kaitano Tembo could be set for a shock return to the DStv Premiership after reports emerged that he is in talks with one of the clubs about becoming their new head coach.
Tembo, whose last job was with Sekhukhune United last season, is a former Zimbabwe international who has also had spells as head coach of SuperSport United and Sekhukhune.
With Babina Noko, he presided over 12 league matches in the first round of the 2022/23 season, winning only two and drawing five times while also losing five.
KAITANO TEMBO RETURN
Richards Bay FC are currently looking for a new head coach after parting ways with Vasilis Manousakis at the end of the 2022/23 season. Manousakis led the team to a 13th-place finish in the DStv Premiership. The club’s management felt that they needed a change in direction.
Tembo is seen as a strong candidate for the Richards Bay FC job. He has a wealth of experience in South African football although he has found the going tough in the dugout.
It is not yet clear whether Tembo will accept the Richards Bay FC job. If Tembo joins Richards Bay, he will be tasked with leading the team to a higher finish in the PSL.
SLUMP IN FORM
The team started off their maiden topflight season well before a slump in form saw them slip from second place. They eventually finished 13th. Tembo will need to bring stability to the team and will need to get the best out of the players.
Last month, Josef Zinnbauer seemed headed for the KZN side, before joining Raja Casablanca.
Richards Bay then tried to get Mandla Ncikazi from Orlando Pirates. However, the two parties could not reach an agreement.
