Andile Jali talks progress as PSL club closes in on deal

A PSL club is closing in on the signing of Andile Jali, with the midfielder reportedly nearing a return to topflight football.

Jali is a free agent after his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns expired at the end of last season.

Since parting ways with the Brazilians, he has been linked with several clubs, including Orlando Pirates and Swallows FC.

However, indications are that Cape Town City are now the frontrunners to sign him.

CT CITY IN TALKS WITH ANDILE JALI

City are said to have tabled an offer which he is set to discuss with his agent, Mike Makaab, this week.

Although Makaab would not disclose the club they are talking to, he revealed they were very close to finalising a deal.

“We’re very close to finalising a deal, but I can’t disclose the club.

I’m hoping that by the end of the week, we will have concluded,” Makaab told FARPost.

With Brice Ambina inching closer to a move away from the Citizens, the Mother City club is eager to bring in Jali.

City have reportedly received several offers from overseas teams for the Cameroonian central defensive midfielder.

A club source says management is “hopeful” of a Jali deal being done. “There have been talks,” the source told FARPost. “It looks like they’re still talking, and management sounds hopeful that something will be finalised soon.”

The midfielder would be a major coup for the club, as he is one of the most experienced and talented midfielders in South Africa.

Jali has won the coveted Premier Soccer League title multiple times with Sundowns and Pirates.

He has also won the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 thrice. Jali is also a former Bafana Bafana international with 49 caps for his country.

MAJOR COUP FOR THE CLUB

If Jali does sign for City, he would be a major addition to the squad. He is a strong midfielder who will also provide leadership, having captained Sundowns on many occasions.

City finished last season fourth in the DStv Premiership table, and they are looking to better that this coming season.

Jali’s arrival would give them a significant boost in their quest for a much more improved term.

The transfer is still not finalised, but it is clear that City are keen to sign Jali. If the deal goes through, it would be a major coup for the club.
