Discarded Orlando Pirates attacker resurfaces at Stellenbosch FC
Discarded Orlando Pirates attacker has resurfaced at Stellenbosch FC to secure a deal ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
Stellenbosch already lost two key players who were crucial last season as they finished in the top eight. They lost Junior Mendieta, who signed for Mamelodi Sundowns, and Ibraheem Jabaar, who joined Israel side Maccabi Petah Tikva.
The Steve Barker-coached team won 10 games in the league, drew 10 and lost on 10 occasions in 30 games. They accumulated 40 points and finished sixth on the Premiership log.
With Stellenbosch looking to build a competitive squad for the upcoming season, this publication understands that a former Pirates attacker has resurfaced at the club.
Collins Makgaka, who is a free agent after he was released by Pirates, is in camp with Stellenbosch.
Makgaka spent three seasons with Pirates after he was signed from Baroka at the start of 2020/21 season.
The Limpopo-born midfielder failed to establish himself as a regular starter with the Soweto giants. He only made four appearances last season without contributing any goals.
FORMER ORLANDO PIRATES MIDFIELDER COLLINS MAKGAKA IN CAMP WITH STELLENBOSCH FC
“Collins Makgaka is currently in camp with the rest of the Stellenbosch squad,” a source told FARPost.
“It’s still early stages because he just arrived in the team. As you know, he was released by Pirates last week. So he’s going to be under the watchful eye of Steve Barker alongside his technical team.
“You must also remember that the club lost Junior Mendieta and Ibraheem Jabaar. So they are on a hunt for replacements.
“Makgaka might just be one of the players who fill in the space of those players they lost.”
