Sundowns set to unveil fourth signing

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to unveil their fourth signing after the player was spotted at Chloorkop ahead of a switch from a DStv Premiership side.

Sundowns have already completed three signings so far – Lesiba Nku, Junior Mendieta and Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

Nku penned a five-year deal from Marumo Gallants who suffered relegation from the top-flight to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Meanwhile, Mendieta signed a four deal with Masandawana from the Winelands side Stellenbosch FC.

The more recent addition to the squad, Ribeiro, also signed a long-term deal with Downs from the Belgian side SK Beveren.

Sundowns have now completed the acquisition of the winger Thapelo Maseko from SuperSport United. The deal involves the midfielder Grant Margeman who moves the opposite way.

As reported by FARPost, Margeman penned a three-year deal with Matsatsantsa.

MASEKO SPOTTED AT CHLOORKOP

This publication has gathered that Maseko was at Chloorkop on Thursday to sign on the dotted lines ahead of his switch from the Swanky Boys to the cross-town rivals.

Sundowns’ interest in Maseko emerged towards the end of the 2023/24 season following his spectacular turnout in his second season with SuperSport’s senior team.

He got a promotion in the 2020/21 season and played only nine matches in all competitions. Meanwhile, in the previous campaign, he scored four goals and recorded two assists in 25 appearances he collected across all competitions.

The 20-year-old also earned a Bafana Bafana call-up from Hugo Broos as he was part of the SA squad that played Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Following his unveiling, Maseko will join the DStv Premiership champions who are currently in the North West province in camp as they build up for the new season.

Rulani Mokwena’s side will soon depart for the Netherlands where they’ll hold a pre-season camp, preparing for the busy schedule of the 2023/24 season.
