Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana close to sealing move

Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana is close to sealing a move away from the Soweto giants.

Bimenyimana was Chiefs’ top goal scorer last season, scoring eight goals in all competitions in his maiden DStv Premiership season.

He has recently been linked with a loan move away from the DStv Premiership giants ahead of the new season.

TURNED DOWN UKRANIAN CLUB

A Ukrainian club was also said to be chasing his signature a month ago, but he reportedly rejected their advances.

The 25-year-old Burundi international has been linked with a move to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca. It is believed that a permanent deal is close to being finalised.

The Casablanca giants look set to lose Bouly Junior Sambou. The 24-year-old Senegalese notched 20 goals in 41 games in all competitions last season.

Bimenyimana is the man identified to replace him. A Chiefs source confirmed that he had left camp, while another source said he was already in Casablanca.

The Burundian marksman was in camp at Ingwenyama Conference and Sports Recreation High-Performance Centre in Nelspruit with the Amakhosi squad preparing for the new season.

Chiefs are open to the exit of the Burundian international as this allows them to look at another foreign striker. With Khama Billiat’s wages off their books, it gives them the latitude to bring in another forward.

The move would be a significant step up for Bimenyimana. He has played in South Africa since the start of the 2022/23 season.

GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR BONFILS-CALEB BIMENYIMANA

Wydad Casablanca is one of the most successful clubs in Morocco, having won the CAF Champions League twice in the past decade. Their most recent Champions League title was in 2022, when they beat Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly.

The move would be a good opportunity for Bimenyimana to test himself at a higher level. It will see him play in one of the most competitive leagues in Africa.

It is unclear when the transfer will be officially announced, but it is expected to be completed in the coming days.

Bimenyimana is a key player for the Burundi national team. He recently starred in their 3-2 win over Peter Shalulile’s Namibia and scored a goal and provided an assist.
