Wayde Jooste resurfaces at DStv Premiership side

Following his departure from Maritzburg United, Wayde Jooste has resurfaced at another DStv Premiership side.

The 31-year-old waved goodbye to the Midlands outfit after their relegation from the top-flight to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

He only spent six months with them after joining in January on a free transfer having been unattached in the first round of the 2022/23 campaign.

WAYDE JOOSTE RESURFACES AT AMAZULU FC

FARPost has learnt that the versatile Port Elizabeth-born star is now training with AmaZulu FC, hoping to seal a deal with the club before the 2023/24 season.

With the pre-season continuing, Usuthu have been in camp in Pietermaritzburg and Jooste has been with the team trying to impress the Pablo Franco Martin-led technical team.

This publication also understands the former Orlando Pirates right-back has been taking part in Usuthu’s recent friendly games with the club preparing for what they are aiming to be a bounce-back campaign.

Jooste featured in 15 games for the Team of Choice including in the DStv Premiership, Promotional Playoffs and Nedbank Cup.

He described his stay at Maritzburg as a “short and bittersweet journey” after they failed to help the club keep their top-flight status.

If he succeeds in penning a deal with Usuthu, he would have to compete with the likes of Thembela Sikhakhane and Mbongeni Gumede for the right-back role.

AMAZULU’S SIGNINGS SO FAR

Meanwhile, AmaZulu have already secured the services of midfielder Celimpilo Ngema after he signed a pre-contract in January.

They have also added Mondli Mbatha and Mfanafuthi Mkhize from Uthongathi. Moreover, according to multiple reports, Usuthu have been hunting Sibongiseni Mthethwa’s signature for some time.

However, it seems like it won’t be easy to convince Stellenbosch FC to allow the transfer to take place.
