Baroka boss’ honest admission of last season’s bad decisions

Chairman of Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC, Khurishi Mphahlele, has made an honest admission on some of the decisions made last season.

Bakgaga will play in the first division for the second season in a row after failing to return to the DStv Premiership in their first season after relegation.

They finished 17 points below a PSL promotion playoff spot. But Mphahlele has now come out to admit that they made some mistakes, including the signing of big-name players whom he says didn’t deliver.

EXPERIENCE DIDN’T WORK FOR BAROKA FC?

The club had the experience of the likes of Jackson Mabokgwane and Phumlani Ntshangase. Both players have since moved on and didn’t finish the season at the club.

“We made a mistake by respecting these teams in the league too much. We had an impression that our young boys would not cope because people told us that in this league, you need big players with experience,” he told FARPost.

“But along the way, we found that is not true because you sign a big player with experience but they let us down. Until we recalled our youngsters to come and play for us and we started getting better results while also playing good football,” added Mphahlele.

Baroka spent Nelson Mandela Day in Seshego, Limpopo together with their main sponsor Global. They were offering a message of support to recovering drug addicts from the Seshego Rehabilitation Center.

Mphahlele says he also expects his team to be amongst those fighting for automatic promotion this season.

“We expect to be more competitive this year than the previous season. We aim to win the league in the first round.

“If we can manage that, then we know the second round we will finish it off. We know our boys are young, and they will finish it easily.”
