PLK City accuses Makola of spreading lies about his departure

Newly promoted DStv Premiership side Polokwane City Chief Operating Officer [COO] Tincy Tema has accused Mpho Makola of spreading lies about his departure from the club.

This comes after Rise and Shine took a decision to release the ex-Orlando Pirates star. Mpho Makola played a role as the side secured automatic promotion to the SA top-flight.

Makola stated that the Limpopo club offered him a contract without figures in it, and he then decided not to sign it because he didn’t know how much he was going to get paid.

Tema has since come forward to clear the air and insisted that what Makola said was all a lie.

City COO went on to say that he is the one who signs contracts at the club and reckons that he did not offer the veteran midfielder an empty contract. However, the player requested to speak to the club’s chairman [Johnny Mogaladi] instead.

TINCY TEMA: ‘HOW CAN WE OFFER A PLAYER LIKE MPHO A CONTRACT WITH NO FIGURES’

“With all due respect, what Mpho Makola said yesterday on your show, he lied,“ said Tema on Metro FM [Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube].

“How could we give a big name and senior player like Mpho a contract with no figures? I am the person who signs contracts for the club, and I did not give him an empty contract.

“From what I heard from the chairman is that Mpho Makola didn’t pitch for his meeting with the chairman.

“We had meetings with different players, but when it was Makola’s time to speak to me about what his expectations would be if the club would continue with him, Makola said he wanted to talk to the chairman.”

‘I NEEDED TO RESPECT MAKOLA’S DECISION TO SPEAK TO THE CHAIRMAN’

Tema further detailed that he had to respect Makola’s request to speak with the chairman first before they would discuss the financial expectations.

“I needed to respect Makola’s decision when he said he wanted to speak to the chairman, but he didn’t pitch to the meeting with the chairman,” he added.

“The management chose the players that it wanted to thank and have a discussion on expectations moving forward if the team were to keep them.

“I didn’t even get to the point of discussing financial expectations with Makola because he said he wanted to speak to the chairman.

“If we want to speak to a particular player, we don’t need the permission of the technical team because we speak to our players on different things.”

Tema also revealed that the club was previously paying Makola very well and provided him with a three-bedroom apartment.

“Polokwane City was paying Makola very well, and we looked after him and provided him with a three-bedroom home for him to live in,” Tema divulged.
