Ramoreboli on why international football is important to experience

Morena Ramoreboli, who was Bafana Bafana’s stand-in coach in the COSAFA Cup, has pointed out why it’s important for coaches to strive for international football experience.

Ramoreboli currently manages Jwaneng Galaxy in the Botswana Premier League. He was tasked to lead SA in the regional tournament that took place in Durban between 5 and 16 July.

His side crashed out in the semifinals at the hands of Zambia, who went on to lift the trophy.

Ramoreboli was also in charge of Bafana when they won the 2021 COSAFA Cup in Port Elizabeth. He says if it was up to him, he was just going to spend all his career in international football.

The Rosendal-born tactician says being a Bafana coach has taught him how to prepare a team in a short space of time. He believes he has acquired a lot of experience while with Bafana.

“If it was going my way, I would be an international coach and coach international teams,” Ramoreboli told FARPost.

“I think I’ve learnt a lot in a period while I was working with the international teams. I have learnt how to prepare a team in a very short space of time.

“Sometimes the pressure you get from building a team in a very short space of time makes you understand the importance of being involved with the national teams. I think you gain experience in a very short space of time.

“As young as I am, I believe being with the national teams has built a lot in me.”

Ramoreboli expressed his gratitude to SAFA for offering him an opportunity to lead the national team. He believes they see potential in him as one of the upcoming coaches in SA.

‘THEY ARE NOT DOING YOU A FAVOUR’

“I can’t have enough words to thank South African Football Association under the leadership of Danny Jordaan for presenting the opportunity to me,” he added.

“The technical committee, Mr Maluleka, the NEC, the CEO, as well as the Technical Director. Every time you get opportunities like these, you need to understand they had an opportunity or a choice to pick somebody else, but they decided to give the opportunity to you.

“So, it’s always important to thank them and understand that they are not doing you a favour. They look at your work, and they want to promote you as a young coach.”
