Chiefs new signing earns praise from Yanga boss

A newly signed Kaizer Chiefs player earned the praise of Young Africans president Engineer Hersi Ally Said.

The Yanga boss hosted Chiefs for an international friendly match on Saturday, which ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts.

The two giants locked horns at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, marking the climax of Wiki ya Mwananchi in which the club unveils its new signings.

Yanga’s new arrivals included South African winger Mahlatse Makudumela, popularly known as ‘Skudu’.

THE CHIEFS NEW SIGNING WHO IMPRESSED YANGA BOSS

After watching their guests for this year’s Yanga Day train on Friday night, Said singled out one new signing for praise.

“I’ve seen Given [Msimango], the central defender who was at TS Galaxy. Kaizer Chiefs have signed a quality player in him,” Hersi told FARPost.

“He looks like a modern defender with exceptional on-the-ball abilities. With the demands of the modern game ever increasing, defenders nowadays need to retain possession and stay calm and collected on the ball. He has those qualities.

“I feel defenders who are comfortable with the ball at their feet can allow the team to suck in the opposition and exploit the hole left in behind.

“He also has the perfect body structure and has a bright career ahead of him.”

Msimango recently moved from TS Galaxy, where he served as captain. The talented defender will be hoping to make an impression in Amakhosi’s colours.

The 26-year-old is one of seven players Chiefs have signed during this transfer window.

CHIEFS CONTINUE WITH THEIR PREPARATIONS

They have also added Edson Castillo, Ranga Chivaviro, Pule Mmodi, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Tebogo Potsane and Mduduzi Mdantsane.

Of the new arrivals, only Chivaviro, who joined from Marumo Gallants, missed the Yanga tie due to injury.

Keagan Dolly, Wandile Duba, Ashley du Preez and Happy Mashiane also missed the game through injury.

The Soweto giants continue with their preparations when they travel to Gaborone next weekend for another friendly.

In the Botswana capital, they meet Township Rollers in their final friendly match before they kick off their DStv Premiership campaign.

Chiefs get their campaign off the mark with a tie against Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 5 August.
