The brace lifts the Bafana Bafana attacker to eight goals this season in all competitions. For Minnesota United, Hlongwane has now scored ten goals since joining the club.

He is slowly becoming the club’s reliable goal-getter, having declared that he wants to set a marker in the Major League Soccer.

Against Puebla, the 23-year-old thrust Minnesota United in the 24th minute.

He was picked by David Taylor in a sizzling counter-attack, and the Bafana Bafana forward outpaced defenders with strength and speed before firing home.

They were reduced to ten men on the half-hour mark when Micheal Boxall was given his marching orders.

And having been reduced to ten men, Hlongwane went into overdrive for the Major League Soccer outfit.

The Bafana Bafana attacker completed his brace after 51 minutes, darting the ball home from Emanuel Reynoso’s cross.

Eight minutes later, Hlongwane assisted Reynoso, who scored the third goal. The Argentine completed his brace in the 65th minute. And that was all Minnesota needed to seal, and league cup win.

Overall, the ex-Maritzburg United attacker has featured in 22 games across all competitions for Minnesota this term.
