Orlando Pirates confirm signing of Lesedi Kapinga

Orlando Pirates have announced that they have signed skilled attacker Lesedi Kapinga following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Soweto giants announced the deal on their official website on Tuesday ahead of the new PSL season.

In a statement, Pirates revealed that Kapinga penned a three-year contract with the club.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Lesedi Kapinga ahead of the 2023/24 season,” said the club.

“The 28-year-old attacking midfielder, who recently played for Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal.”

Kapinga parted ways with Sundowns last season as he struggled for game time. He only made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Tshwane giants in three years. He won three DStv Premiership titles and the Nedbank Cup.

The highly-rated midfielder had moved to Sundowns at the start of the 2020/21 season from Black Leopards.

PIRATES WELCOMES KAPINGA

“Known for his flair, and creativity, Kapinga, who formerly played for Black Leopards and Mamelodi Sundowns, has 91 official matches under his belt, including 11 goals and 15 assists,” added Pirates in a statement.

“He will link up with his new team-mates this week and has been allocated the number 21. Join us as we welcome Lesedi to the Club”

In addition, Kapinga stated that he is happy to join Pirates, insisting that he wants to add value to the club.

“I am pleased to join the Club,” said Kapinga. “I’m not much of a talker because talk is cheap. All I’m focused on is to start training and working my way back to playing the game I love.”

Meanwhile, Pirates beat rivals Kaizer Chiefs to the signature of Kapinga as Amakhosi were heavily linked with the midfielder for several weeks.

He is Pirates’ fifth new arrival after Melusi Buthelezi, Patrick Maswanganyi, Katlego Otladisa, and Siphelo Baloni.

And he will be eager to revive his career in Soweto and prove his doubters wrong in the 2023/24 season.
