Pirates sign Maritzburg United star

Orlando Pirates have signed Maritzburg United attacker Karim Kimvuidi ahead of the 2023/24 PSL season. 

The talented Democratic Republic of Congo was very instrumental for the Team of Choice last campaign, having featured in 34 games and weighed in with four assists.

The ‘Sea Robbers’ confirmed the deal  on Wednesday, 26 July 2023. 

This comes a day after Pirates announced the acquisition of playmaker Lesedi Kapinga following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Orlando Pirates is pleased to announce it has reached an agreement with Maritzburg United for the services of Karim Kimvuidi,” read the club’s statement.

Kimvuidi signed for the ‘Blue Army’ at the beginning of the last season from the DR Congo side DC Motema Pembe.

The player is Pirates’ sixth signing in this transfer window period. The club has completed the services of Melusi Buthelezi, Patrick Maswanganyi, Katlego Otladisa, and Sephelo Baloni.

The star player will be important for Pirates, as they return to the CAF Champions League in the upcoming term. 

To add to that, Pirates recently completed their pre-season camp in Spain, which was a success. 

The Jose Riveiro side eagerly anticipates Kimvuidi’s impact on the field of play as they aim to challenge for more major titles in the upcoming season. Also, bring stability and help the team to reach the promised land.

The 21-year-old footballer will also be expected to add value to Pirates’ attacking options, as the new campaign looms large. 

ORLANDO PIRATES TO FACE STELLENBOSCH FC IN THEIR FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON 

Pirates will kick off the DStv Premiership season against Stellenbosch FC at Danie Craven Stadium on August 5.

The new season will start on Friday, 4 August 2023. The defending champions Sundowns taking on Sekhukhune United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
