Sekhukhune United strengthen squad with seventh signing

Sekhukhune United have unveiled their seventh signing as they continue to assemble a team for a busy schedule of the 2023/24 season.

Babina Noko will be competing in the CAF Confederation Cup after qualifying by virtue of playing the Nedbank Cup final last season. The club will also take part in the four competitions in domestic football.

They have wrapped up the signing of the midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize from Mamelodi Sundowns on a three-year deal. They beat the likes of Cape Town City FC and Chippa United in the signing.

“Sekhukhune United Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Siphesihle Elwin Mkhize from Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the 2023/24 DSTV Premiership season on a three-year deal,” reads Sekhukhune United statement.

“Born in Umlazi, KwaZulu Natal on the 5th of February 1999, Mkhize (24) started his football career with Mamelodi Sundown’s Academy in 2013. Sundowns promoted him to the senior team in 2019, but they sent him on loan to gain experience.

He spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Ajax Cape Town FC, and then spent the last two seasons on loan at Chippa United, where he made 33 league starts.

“Siphe” as he is affectionately known, has represented the National Under 20 in 2019
Africa Cup of Nations held in Niger and U20 World Cup in Poland.

“Mkhize revealed that he is looking forward to the exciting new season ahead. He promised the “Babina Noko” fans to do his best to ensure that the club stays where it belongs.”

The Limpopo-based club will kick off their 2023/24 campaign with a home game against the league champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
