Maduka weighs in on Potsane’s controversial transfer to Chiefs

Royal AM coach John Maduka has weighed in on Tebogo Potsane’s controversial transfer to Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2023/24 PSL campaign.

Chiefs confirmed the signing of the 29-year-old winger on a three-year deal three weeks ago.

Potsane was with Thwihli Thwahla last season, and was one of the important players for the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

In the last term, the player featured in 20 games for Maduka’s side and contributed three assists in the process.

However, according to reports, AM are said not to be happy with Potsane’s move to the Soweto giants.

It is alleged that the club had an option to extend Potsane’s contract, as he moved to Amakhosi as a free agent, and the side is reported to have been contemplating taking the matter to the PSL DRC.

Meanwhile, coach Maduka has admitted that they would have loved to keep Potsane at the club. But unfortunately, things turned out differently.

“I think that one should be directed to the management. As a coach, of course, we wanted to have Potsane in the team,” said Maduka when asked about Potsane’s transfer to Chiefs.

“As of late, the team did whatever as they were supposed to do to have Potsane in the team.

“But you must remember that as you grow older, there’s always a team that will want you to play for them.”

Maduka went on to reveal that at some point, players should be allowed to move on to join other teams.

“Sometimes is good to allow the player to go where he’s going to be happy. But, it doesn’t mean he wasn’t happy with us. He was happy, but he told us his dream is to play for Kaizer Chiefs,” he added.

“So, what I can say as a coach is to wish him all the best.”
